Flatcap

A color system for long hours in front of a screen, and the adaptations for the tools I use every day.

What it is

Flatcap is a dark, calm theme that’s easy on the eyes, inspired by Nord. It started as an editor color scheme and grew into a system: twenty colors in four families, with usage rules, and an adaptation for each application.

Inspired by the Nord theme.

What it does

  • Twenty colors in four families: backgrounds, text, action blues and status accents.
  • Adaptations for VS Code, Obsidian, Windows Terminal, Firefox and FreshRSS.
  • Syntax highlighting for Go, JavaScript, PHP, Rust and more.
  • Published as an extension on the VS Code Marketplace and on Firefox Add-ons.

What I did

  • I started from an idea, a screen that doesn’t tire you after hours of work, and turned it into a system: twenty colors, four families and usage rules.
  • I carried the same visual language to five very different applications, from a code editor to a news reader.
  • I published the theme on the VS Code Marketplace and on Firefox Add-ons.
  • I maintain it in open repositories and keep refining it as I use it.
